Verene focuses on dispute resolution, with experience in arbitration, adjudication and litigation, particularly in commercial, corporate and infrastructure matters. She has acted in proceedings under both international and domestic arbitral rules.

Experience & Credentials
Verene’s early practice was shaped by training with one of the firm’s founding partners, where she gained grounding in shareholder and corporate conflicts, insolvency and professional negligence.
Building on that foundation, her practice has grown towards arbitration and adjudication, with a focus on commercial and infrastructure disputes, while she continues to appear in court across a range of matters.
She has also grown her advisory work with businesses in Malaysia on franchise, trade, distribution, licensing, digital compliance and broader regulatory issues, drawing on her disputes background to provide advice that is clear and practical in day-to-day business.
She is noted in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2025 as part of the firm’s recognition as a ‘Firm to Watch’ in real estate and construction.
Outside of practice, Verene enjoys leisure reading, time in nature and pilates, and is kept busy by her mini dachshund.
Verene has been involved in, among others, the following matters:
- Acting in arbitration under the SIAC Rules concerning delays, variations, defects, retention sums, prolongation costs and contractual performance.
- Handling adjudication proceedings under the Construction Industry Payment & Adjudication Act 2012, including setting aside, staying and enforcement applications.
- Acting as part of the counsel team in the Chatime (Malaysia) franchise dispute involving breach of franchise agreements, regulatory compliance under the Franchise Act 1998, and injunction proceedings at all court levels up to the Federal Court.
- Acting in Judicial Management proceedings involving a highway and infrastructure concessionaire.
- Handling a dispute involving allegations of abuse of process and conspiracy following Federal Court orders for specific performance of agreements relating to plantation lands and a mill.
- Handling a claim concerning the termination of a management agreement over a large plantation, involving claims for outstanding contract sums and expenses, and allegations of wrongful abandonment.
- Acting in multi-jurisdictional corporate disputes involving over 40 lawsuits, including claims under the Companies Act, anti-suit injunctions and conspiracy.
- Acting for financial institutions in recovery and enforcement actions.
- Acting in a manufacturing and product liability dispute involving a fittings supplier in an oil and gas project.
- Acting in contractual disputes concerning trade and supply agreements.
- Acting in proceedings concerning sale and purchase agreements, including Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai v Tan Soon Koon[2021] LNS(O) 3.
- Acting in writ of seizure and sale and prohibitory order proceedings, including Sinohydro Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd v KAJ Development Sdn Bhd[2023] MLJU 599.
- Acting in appeals concerning regulatory sanctions, including matters involving the Securities Commission of Malaysia.
- Acting in eviction proceedings and tenancy disputes, including recovery of possession against squatters.
- Acting in medical negligence claims for medical institutions.
- Acting in class actions for liquidated damages, misrepresentation and maintenance costs, including Soon Tiek Development Sdn Bhd v Lim Hoo Kim & Ors[2017] 5 MLJ 583.
- Handling shares ownership disputes, including Dr Thiagarajah Retnasamy & Anor v Vijay Kanchan & Ors[2014] CLJU 899.
- Handling claims concerning vicarious liability of fund managers for employee fraud: Zurich Insurance (M) Bhd v AmTrustee Bhd & Anor[2014] 1 MLJ 736.
- Handling restitution matters under section 66 of the Contracts Act 1950, such as Tan Chee Hoe & Sons v Code Focus[2014]
Qualifications
Verene is a graduate of the University of Western Australia and holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Leo Cussen Centre for Law, Australia.
She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor in the High Court in Malaya in 2013
